Mapping our wines
CLÍPEO WINES is our passion for terroir. It’s stepping into field boots and meandering among plots whose soils have been worked and whose fruits have been harvested by hand since time immemorial.
Our wines can be traced along paths that traverse the great terrains of Rioja, from San Vincente de la Sonsierra’s vineyards to the upper valleys of the Najerilla and following its course down to the Ebro River. The heart of Rioja pulses at the threshold of the Cueva La Alcaldía winery.

San Vicente de la Sonsierra

Delectably small yields are plucked from the extraordinary San Vincente de la Sonsierra vineyard called “El Bombón”. We craft the highest-quality artisan wines from the sweet jewels of Tempranillo vines, a variety exceptionally well-suited to the vineyard’s poor soils. Very low yields are evidence that these vines produce the very best.
Viñedo Singular
C e r r o l a I s a
This little jewel of a plot occupies just 1.7 hectares. Tucked away on an upstream slope in Baños de Río Tobía, the parcel enjoys perfect southern exposure on an impressive grade at 700 metres above sea level in the Alto Valle del Najerilla. Cerro la Isa is one of the few vineyards to have earned the highest honours accorded by DOCa Rioja: permission to craft two Viñedo Singular wines. Our Garnacha is the fruit of vines that are more than 100 years old, and our Blanco’s white berries were harvested according to time-honoured tradition: on individual passes for each variety.

The vineyards of Alto Najerilla in Baños de Río Tobía are where the Clípeo wines’ stories begin. Maturana Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco, our autochthonous varieties, reach their maximum expression just within DOCa Rioja alongside truly old-vine Garnacha planted at altitude more than 100 years ago. Pushing altitudinal limits, their cooler microclimate positions them particularly well to face climate change.
Rioja Alta

One of Rioja Alta’s greatest treasures is found by following the Najerilla River to where its waters meet the Ebro. From their confluence arise the Alcaudón wines. Each member of this family of wines has been selected from among the finest Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo.
